Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

I want to mound a 12 volt socket on the dashboard of my Qpod Sport mainly to run a sat nav from.
I dont particularly want to run wires all the way from the battery can anyone tell me the best place to run the wires from?

Undo the 4 screws holding the speedo in place, draw the unit out slightly
You will find an assortemnent of switched live wires there. I would still put a 5 amp fuse link in however to protect the wiring loom
Thanks Mike -will do
Hi Mike and Martyn,

I think Martyns idea is good. Its what I did too! A fuse is a must though.

Alan
Hi Alan/Mike
regarding the "4 screws holding the speedo in place" where are they?
Before I break something looking, are they under the speedo trim or screwed in from behind the dashboard?
thanks
Martyn

On mine they are around the edge of the speedo unit. Small phillips from memory.

I reckon that they must have changed the set up there are no signs of any screws holding the speedo in - I am assuming that it is either bolted from inside the dashboard or they are hidden by the trim around the speedo/fuel guage I will check when it gets a bit warmer
Mine being an early 2000 funtech, it could well be that the instrument panel is different to yours Martyn. Mine has very small phillips head self tapping screws that screw through the plastic dashboard moulding into the instrument pod (which looks very much like a scooter / moped dash. (Does anyone know what Bike it may have been sourced from by the way)? You could access the power from behind the switchgear, - the light switches or windscreen washers supply perhaps - or the heater supply. As long as it is a switched live ie is only live when the ignition is switched on you should be ok. (To stop potential flattening of batteries if you inadvertantly leave stuff connected).

I concur about waiting until it gets a bit warmer! Too bloomin' cold to be upside down under a dashboard at the moment I reckon!!!! Good Luck. Alan
hi i would pick up a live from your hazzard switch ,elvis
i would stick a car battery on the pod and a junction box the sat nave can be connected strate to the battery with crocodile clips i have a small tv on mine and it works well thanks to alan i now know what the speedo is
