Secma Qpod Club

Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

The only snag with using the Qpod is the high road tax. I have written to DVLA, Minisrty Of Transport even the Minister direct and so far can not get the pod tax on emmisions. Has anyone else tackled this area? I would love to hear from you if so.

I agree, the road tax is high and because of the low emissions it should be Tax exempt. I went through a stage of making phone calls, writing letters and sending e-mails but all to no avail.
I have also been down this road with no success - perhaps it's something the importers should try getting an official response on.
Thank you for your comments. Who are the Importers and how do we contact them to find out whether they can help with this matter. I think the tax puts people off buying. We have spoken to many Motorhomers interested in the Qpod but they loose interest when we mention the road tax.
Hi Paulene and Ray, I will ask the people responsible and will post my findings in this thread. I know some of the dealers have raised similar concerns on a more or less official level with no positive result either. I'll see what I can find out...
Yep I'm with you on this one, I've tried too but I just get asked "it's a what" and after explaining over and over again I get fobbed off with the same replies.
Crazy really but I think we are up against a brickwall with this one, but fingers crossed another member might have the answer!?
Here's hoping.
Hi All

I contacted DVLA and was told it is not road taxed on the emissions based scheme as it is not a car. It is taxed as a quadricycle, group L7e. However, most quad bikes are taxed at a significantly lower rate. With manufacturers stated emissions of 80.7 g/km it really ought to be road tax exempt. Perhaps as a group we could try to get the rate for these iconic vehicles reduced.

Good idea, Eddy! I guess once we have got more people in the club we can definitely bring this forward collectively.
We seem to have hit on a subject we are all battling with. It's good to know we are all of the same mind. Alec if it is of any help to you and the club I have paperwork on this issue from DVLA and the Ministry of Transport which I would be happy to copy and send to you. Lets hope as a group we can make some progress.

Sure thing, shoot it over to: admin (at) qpodclub.com so we can have a look and see if we can take it any further.
Add me to the road Tax campaign.
I have already got my MP Involved. He agrees that £120 / Year for such a small "Car" Is crazy.

Foir those of you who never quite get around to Writing and Posting a letter, MP's have to treat a Fax message in the same way as a letter and respond in writing within 2 weeks.
http://www.writetothem.com will let you send a fax to your MP Online.
I have a reply from the Department for Transport.

My response says that the Government CO2 taxation scheme is to encourage more "Greener" cars.
A Qpod is not a Car and therfore is classed in the L7 tax Bracket and not tested for CO2.

Yes that sounds crazy to me as well.

They go on to say that the Government wish to encourage Mass Market Vehacles and seem to not give a stuff about anything that is not considered a Mass Market car.

So to sum thing up:

A Qpod is not a car so CO2 is not measured.
It's therefore taxed with all cars produced before 1 March 2001 or with no CO2 figures in the PLG catagory.
As there are proportionally not many QPOD or similar vehacles on the road they don't care !

If anyone wants to see a copy of the letter get back to me. I'll scan it for you.
