Permalink Reply by Alan on January 24, 2012 at 20:52 Matt,
This is a reprint of my forum entry from back in Oct 2010. Hope it is of some interest. The specialist bye the way didn't recognise them at all, but thought they may have been originally sourced from the agricultural industry.
About a month ago I said that if i got any details regarding drive shaft repairs I'd let you know. I have (had) a 1999 Funtch 350 with worn U/J's.
I live fairly locally to Cunninghams and i called in and had the last two universal joints that they had. They have more on order, but unfortunately I needed both sides pretty much straight away.
The ones I got from Cunninghams are supplied in an unmarked box - other than the marking 22*48 on it. They are "sealed for life" or to put it another way they don't have the useless grease nipples fitted.
The marks are significant. The 22 is the diameter of the bearing cup. The 48 is the distance across the U/J with the bearing cups in place. The bearings are retained in the joint by circlips and are NOT "staked"
To order replacements these are the questions the stockist will ask you. Its no good measuring the actual items as rusty, bent, battered and generally dismantled lumps of scrap are difficult to measure accurately!!!!
I needed two others, so I went to a local drive shaft specialist who got them in for me. They are apparently an unusual size so are not held in stock but they are available. (But getting quite rare apparently).
These came in boxes marked as follows.
Manufacturer - European Driveshaft Services (EDS) and marked 224/0659 WD1348. They are identical to the first ones I got except that they DO have grease nipples and they were £5 pounds cheaper each at £26.50.
If I might be so bold as to suggest that fitting them is probably a job left to someone who knows their way around a workshop as you do need some pretty hefty presses or at least a good engineering vice (and a b****y heavy hammer) to fit them!
Hope this is of interest to you.

Their website doesn't do them justice. They have an Aladins cave of a store and their staff are all expert engineers. They got me the U/J joints and I fitted them, but they might be able to post them to you?
good luck
Alan
ALex, you could not be further from the truth there, however, some detective work may be needed, there is a post on the Facebook page with alternative part sources
