Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi i have a 2001 Qpod 50cc three wheeler. I am aware that the engine , gearbox etc is Piaggio but could someone please tell me which model Piaggio the bits will fit from, Zip, NRG etc, which model is the same as there seem to be a number of Piaggio 50cc scooters around 2001. I need to get some bits from my local bike shop and ebay but cant tell them which model i need.
All help and advice greatly received, WILL get this thing running sweetly if it kills me.

Thanks for the kisses. I reckon you're only after my pod.

Thought I read somewere they were Suzuki SP50 engines.
information recently received is this:-

I think the engine is the Franco Morini AH50-LC engine this should be the first part of the engine number

From a very good source!!!

Ian,
Weren't you saying that you wanted to tow your pod behind your motorhome? How are you going to do that apart from on a trailer?
xx
It seems with more investigstion the Franco morini engine is an engine supplied as a italjet formula 50cc air cooled engine.
See ebay 150346280030 for the identical side casing as used on our qpods.

Hi, thanks for your mail. It will go on a special trailer, not a conventional trailer that is attached via a normal towball but this trailer from (www.ezetow.co.uk) is attached at 2 points, its two wheels are like supermarket trolley wheels and can rotate 360 dregrees, this means for reversing it simply follows the direction of the vehicle, no opposite lock or snaking, can do 3 point turns etc no problem, and my motorhome is already 29' long.
Brilliant piece of kit ( almost like a platform attached to the back but all its weight is on its own wheels).

Hi,
I have a 2001 50cc as well and I have managed to find parts for it. You refer to NGK. The NGK spark plug is BR7HS. If you want a performance spark plug, go for BR7HIX. You can get this on ebay for about £8. The engine is morini I believe.
What parts do you need exactly? What problems are you having?
I recently had mine upgraded to a 70cc. With a new carburettor it has the output of about 100cc. I also have a K&N air filter for it. However the coil is giving a weak spark and it has had no end of problems, however unrelated to the new engine size. The mechanic says that he once had an engine like this and the man sold in the end as it could not be fixed to something reliable. For example, this type of engine has no pick up in the magento which is odd. The wiring diagram was also different to the wiring.
If you want a new exhaust, go for a Leo Vince ZX as this costs about £110. This performance exhaust is cheaper than the standard exhaust from cunninghams at £160. The 70cc kit is made by polini and it has a gear up kit which is standard. The fuel jets are standard as well. The air filter is part number RC-0790 and can be ordered from halfords for £31.99. It is not designed for the wet weather though, however you can buy a protective cover from K&N.
The variator rollers are 17x12 and to get extra power, purchase some molini 4 gram rollers from adrenalinpedstop on their website. Cunninghams supply 7 gram rollers which are absolutely way too heavy and make the vehicle slow. These rollers do not change the engine output yet merely make the engine change gear later, allowing it to utilise the most effective rpm's and give a better output. Any moped garage can do this, you need an air gun drill to knock the nut off so it has to be taken to a garage. It costs about £20 for the new rollers to be changed.
To get a 70cc kit, you will should declare this to the dvla and to your insurance and will need a full car licence as it is a trike.
I don't know whether cunninghams dont know this information yet when you call in, they dont tell you. They make you pay too much money for the parts which are sometimes standard parts available for half the price.
When I purchased the standard variator rollers to establish the weight and size, I was charged £24.99. My mechanic recognized the part number and found the wholesale price to be £2.99. Cunninghams denied this. The performance alternative cost me £10.
I will tell you anything else you need to know if I know it myself. Also, adrenalinpedstop expressed an interest in collecting a list of parts that will fit qpods. If people need things, the chances are there is an alternative that can be purchased from them for a much cheaper price. If we all show our support to adrenalinpedstop, they will open a qpod section and prices are very reasonable.
Hi, in my earlier post I put 4 gram rollers. The correct weight is actually 4.5 gram rollers. Now just another example of how cunninghams try to rip you off. Whe I telephoned for the rollers, I had driven 1hr 30mins to the shop to buy a new exhaust. The shop advised me I could buy variator rollers and said they come in different sizes. They told me my manufacturer would tell me what the standard size and weight was. I then telephoned cunninghams. They told me that they were busy so I should wait for 30 mins. There I was stood in a shop 50 miles away from home and they refused to help me. After 30 mins I rang back. The man told me that I would need 27x12 and he didnt know the weight. I asked whether he could weigh them or anything but he said he had no scales. I had no choice but to pay £24.99 for some rollers which I later discovered were made by top racing and the wholesale price was £2.99.
These rollers arrived and printed on them was 17x12, 7 grams. Now I think that this is unfair on more than one accounts. As useful as cunninghams are with stocking all the parts, they have the monopoly of the market and use it to their advantage. Unfair really.
HI, i agree, the prices are steep, I understand why the prices are artificially high and i dont begrudge any body making a profit, No profit = No business, which is bad for us all.
Fortunately with more investigation i have found that the Italjet Formula 50 Air Cooled engine and gerabox is THE backend, and prices are very competetive, so servicing can be done by most Italjet scooter dealers as well as thw Qpod dealers. Use the Qpod dealers as much as monetarily possible to keep them in business.
