Hi

Sounds like the charging circuit is awry somewhere.

The battery should give around 12 volts with the engine Off.

Start the engine and at tickover you should expect a little more.

Raise the engine revs, you should see teh voltage rise to around 14, but should not go much above 15.

The Voltage Regulator is on the back of the engine. check the connections are clean.

The alternator is under the fly wheel - you will need speciallist tools to get that off.

To test, measure the resistance between the 3 alternator wires and Ground. they should be about the same.

Then measure between the 3 wires, again they should be about the same.

Hope this helps.

Alex.

Thanks, will  Alex have a look later. steve

Hi Alex , have checked battery voltage ,

12.63v ignition off

 12.56v ignition on

13.30v  tickover.

1000-2000 rpm 14.30v steady.

So regulator and charging coils i assume are OK, but  but ignition light stays lit does not get any brighter with voltage increase really confused now any suggestions? do you have a wiring diagram for a 2006? pod sport ta steve

Steve,

A long shot I know but the pcb on the rear of the speedo unit is not the best in the world, I currently have an issue with the indicator tell tales both flashing at the same time so it may just be a short on the pcb??

Regards

Chris

Hi chris, Thats what I thought and had the speedo unit out last night. The ignition light is not part of the PCB it is a rubber mounted LED that has has its own 2 wires and 2 pin connector ,hence a wiring diagram would be handy as i can trace the wires back and check them out. Only other thing that i can think of is to buy another voltage regulator from cunninghams . We have a quad dealer local going to have a word with him later thanks for suggestion regards ,steve

Hi

That looks like a good and healthy charging system to me.

Numbers all look to be addin up and i see no issues.

I think it woyld be worth checking the alternator coils.

It could be that 1 of the 3 has failed. That will burn out the other 2.

There is a charging circuit diagram on the lombardini site.

http://service.lombardinigroup.it

LGA 280 - 340

pages 34 and 35

Finally cracked it , went to a local quad bike dealer he actually offered to take new regulator from Secma engine and  lend it to me, what a guy, put it on my pod  problem gone .

So even if the voltages are all correct to your battery there can still be a problem with the regluator. Can't thank the local dealer enough  got a reglator on order now .thanks to all forum members for there help and suggestions ,this one really had me scratching my head
