Secma Qpod Club

Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi all,

I was doing my daily ebay search and found this qpod that has free tax!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2209505191...

I spoke to the seller of this qpod, and he said he argued for ages to get the qpod made tax free and provided the DVLA with the proof they needed to make the Qpod tax free. He also said that hopefully if I provided them with the registration number of this tax free qpod they should hopefully be able to make my Qpod tax free to.. So I'm passing on the wisdom!

I will ring them tomorrow and try and get my Qpod tax free so I will report back on the results.

Hopefully this is the break we need to get tax free pods! :D

Watching this and waiting to see how you get on.......... You have my 100% backing on this, I have tried in the past  but they WON'T discuss how someone else can get it free, unless they are disabled or using on a farm/forestry and need to cross roads from one part of farm/forrestry to the other. Good luck :-)

This is what he replied to me:

Dear macprentice,
I contacted the manufacturer in France and got a copy of the Secma accreditation certificate and a copy of Luxcontrol accreditation certificate that detailed the CO2 output of the engine.
I then gave the dvla details of another qpod that they had also agreed as tax free - this was WA05 LXE.
I would imagine that if you wrote to the dvla and quoted my registration and the one above, they would change yours too. Now the vehicle type has been recognised as low emission I can't see how they could refuse. They will also have to give back all the road tax you have paid - I got all mine refunded when I got it agreed in Feb 2007.
It was not an easy process - my local dvla office was incredibly unhelpful. Swansea did agree it in the end but I had to be persistent.
I hope you get yours changed and that this helps other qpod owners to get back the road tax they have been overcharged.
Regards
Andrew

I have just got off the phone to the DVLA (by the way I am not the most confident on the phone, I hate it). The gentleman I spoke with said the Co2 was never confirmed when first registered. I mentioned there were others that have now become tax exempt why cant mine. There is not a blaket cover for every vehicle from that manufacturer so each individual vehicle needs its co2 verifying when being first registered.

So advice given was get the co2 level thing from the manufacturers and take evidences to my local DVLA office :(

Hi Mathius

Could you not ask this chap to send you a scanned copy of a copy of the Secma accreditation certificate and a copy of Luxcontrol accreditation certificate that detailed the CO2 output of the engine. If he scanned his into the computer we could all show the DVLA, that is assuming its just standard and not registered to that exact vehicle.

Mags

just emailed and asked...we shall see

I don't think Podgy would qualify - she's a smelly-weed :-(

Just spoke to the DVLA who basically gave me the brush off and said that in order to change the tax class I would have to visit or write to my "local" DVLA (which is 45 miles away!) and ask for their assistance. She also said that the PLG tax bracket was "standard" for all Quadricycles used on the roads. Well I am not taking this lying down and have put a letter in the post to the DVLA.

Just had a message from Jason (He doesn't pay tax on his pod) on the Facebook Qpod Owners Club site, seems like we all need to contact Secma France.

****If you apply to the manufacturer they can confirm low emissions and then get your v5 changed****

SECMA accreditation certificate and copy of the LUXCONTROL accreditation certificate that detais the CO2 output for the engine

Mags

Thanks Mags, I'll go ahead and contact them asap

I too saw the pod on ebay and got instantly excited at the thought of being tax exempt! What ever the outcome Im fully prepared to go for it too as we pay far to much tax on these pods... Keep up the good work Alex and please let me know the outcome,
