Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi folks,

I assume that the clear pipes from the fuel tank and going to the carb are supposed to be primed with fuel. Mine are empty (even after running the starter motor for some time). Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Duncan

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your reply. I live near Chester in North Wales. Where are you?

I have taken the petrol tank out, but it is dark and raining now, so I will take a further look at it in the morning.

Thanks for your help.

Duncan

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the offer. Rather than publishing your phone number for all the world to see, you can send it to my email address adp2@the-parks.com. Thanks again.

Hi duncan
it sounds course but if you suck on the small pipe this releases the valve and lets petrol through just a bit of a test

Hi Andrew,

I removed both pipes from the fuel tank , fitted a short piece of pipe to the vacuum port on the tank valve. When I sucked, petrol flowed freely out of the other port. I refitted the pipes to the tank and the vacuum pipe to the carburettor. When I turned the engine over fuel started to flow after a few seconds. The flow was slightly pulsed and not quite as strong as when I sucked on the valve, but was definitely there. I fitted a short piece of pipe to the fuel inlet on the carburettor and filled it with petrol. I then attempted to start with no success. I checked the plug, which was sparking, and was saturated with fuel. I dried this off and tried starting again. A very brief firing, then nothing at all. A kick start caused it to run for about three seconds unevenly, before it stopped again.

There is no in-line fuel filter between the tank and the carburettor.

A bit of background:

I bought this Qpod a few weeks ago and had trouble starting it as soon as I got home. I had a couple of runs in it and all seemed well (although it had a knackered battery, which I have now replaced.) Then on the third run out it stopped dead halfway home. Despite much fiddling and various new parts it has not run or started properly since.

Any further advice gratefully received.

Regards Duncan
So it does have some kind of choke then does it? (I couldnt find one)
Is it an automatic choke.
Thanks
Duncan
Hi

It could be that the Rubber seal has perrished.
if the rubber goes soft or gets a pinhole in it the fuel will not flow correctly or reliably.

A Fuel tap from most Mopeds / motorcycles should work. Take the old tap with you.
I thank a suzuki AP50 would be a good bet.......

Andrews advice is all good :), Muck in the carb is not uncommon. Take it all apart and clean it.

The charging systems on the 50's are far from good. The electrics struggle to keep up if the lights are used.
The electrics were only designed for a Moped with 1 headlight, 1 tail / Brake light etc......

Get yourself an optimate charger or similar ( NOT a std battery charger) or a solar cell charger to keep the Battery topped up.

Alex.

Hello David, You would be most welcome to come up and take some photos. If you give me your email address I will send you some first to see if that is good enough or whether you need to come out to Llanarmon yn ial.

I have got mine running, but it's still not quite right. Do you have the contact details for the guy in St Martins please.

Some useful stuff on this tread.  As a new user of a City I hope that this information will not be required, but wanted to bump this as there are a few new users about.

Well last night my pod refused to start.  I tried kickstarting, and on the key, but nothing...  I had the plug out, and it was dry, so took the air filter off, sprayed carb cleaner all over, and then noticed that the end of the vacuum pipe had perished, and was off.

I cut the end off, reconnected, replaced the plug and air filter, and it startd first time.  Told you this was useful stuff.  Thanks.
