How/What do you use to securing the secma/pods?

Just want to know how do you all keep it secure, without it getting nicked or something.

as im living in a place where things get nicked all the time, as my push bike nicked before.

Personally, I do nothing. However if we're going to be somewhere busy, we use a huge motorbike chain round the front wheels. The worst I've had happen is children eating my tin of sweets >:-(

Hi

I secure mine with a motorcycle chain to any suitable object through a wheel or the rear bumper.
If no object is available i put it through the rear bumper and through the rear wheel.

Saying that - some pods have solid wheels - hmmmm

Maybe through the rear mudguard locked through the universal joints ?

A Big chain on display is likely to deterr the casual / oppertunist thief no matter how effective it actualy is.
If someone really wants your pod they will have it, nomatter how you secure it.

I use an insulated motorcycle chain, for what it's worth. Trouble is it's bleedin heavy, bought it cheap at a car boot sale and I reckon it was part of a job lot of old anchor chain from the Titanic. My poor little pod looks so unhappy with a whacking great chain wrapped round a lampost, makes me feel cruel, callous and heartless, so most of the time I don't use it.

Tried a motorcycle Tracker early on in my ownership in the hope that if my pod did get nicked, the country's finest boys in blue would come out in force in their 120mph squad cars and give hot pursuit round the M25.
In reality, Tracker's useless when the battery's flat, which is most of the time.

My latest wheeze, in the same mindset as Alex when he said "if they really want your pod they will have it", is to use Smartwater. Smartwater is a unique (to you) DNA for lawnmowers, bikes, motorcycles etc with a 100% conviction rate. Just a dab of the stuff all over your pod, engine, wheels etc, whatever you like, and if it does get nicked it's traceable back to you through the police forensic service. The beauty of it is you get a label with the kit saying this item is protected by Smartwater, display it somewhere prominently and the baddies have second thoughts of making off with it.
Costs about £30 for a motorcycle, worth it for peace of mind, I reckon.

Given the Sport 340's aren't made any more following the Secma factory fire, and demand may mean pods being pinched to order for spares (now THERE'S a thought.......!) anybody buying spare parts for their pod on the secondhand market won't have a clue where they've come from.

If my pod does get nicked, while I'd be really happy to get all my bits back through Smartwater and rebuild it, I'm left wondering if some other poor innocent pod owner is going to get prosecuted for receiving stolen goods?

I agree with the others.

I have the data tag and smart water on my bikes too! Won't always mean you get your property back in one piece, but it may help the thieving gits get caught!

I have also fitted a battery cutout switch in the boot. A big red key obtainable in most motor sport outlets. This would stop them from shorting out the ignition switch (hot wiring) unless they know about the cutout. It also completely disconnects the battery and so avoids any potential drain on it during long lay ups. It also isolates the car system from the towing vehicle when I tow the wee beasty.

I use an Oxford motorcycle lock, through the back wheel and around the rear bumper or preferrably an immoveable object like a lamp post or my motorcaravan. Lets face it if it isn't bolted down and someone really wants it - then a couple of blokes and a trailer or van and they could lift it in the back and be away - like they do with bikes.

I would love to be able to connect it to the national grid, but I suspect that might be illegal!!!!

Hope it won't come down to you getting it stolen, but at least a lock would deter the opportunist thief.
