Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi All

I'm organising the qpod rally this year as you know.

But I can't get my pod there cos there is no way I'm driving it from Essex.

This feels just so wrong to me.

Some Motorcycle rallies now have a "No Cars, No Vans, No Pedestrians, No Excuces" policy.

I have however discovered a local Co. who will make me a Tow Bar for the bike.

I had a look at the law on Towing.

It says a Bike can not tow a car, but the pod is not a car.

It says a Bike can tow another bike, but the pod is not a bike.

It also says a Bike can tow a trailer.

There is no Licensing requirement for towing a trailer with a motorcycle.

So - Can I ride a Bike and tow the pod ?

If I did would I become a plod magnet ?

Hi Alex,
The world of Qpods is filled with conundrums isn't it? I think I would take yourself off to the local plod shop and ask them making a note of the name and the plod's number.
Hope you can bring yours ;-)

Hi.
I have the Motoring question from hell for you.

I ride a Motorcycle.

I also have a quadricycle which comes with a Towing attachment which lifts up the front wheels. The quad is designed to be towed behind a car or more likely a motor home.

I looked at Direct.gov.uk which says that I can not tow a car with a motorcycle, and I can tow a trailer or another motorcycle.

Where do I satnd if I wanted to tow a quadricycle with a properly designed and fitted towing attachment and tow ball.
The only thing to note is the quad would not be braked.

I can totally appreciate it if there is no answer to this one, but the question has to be "Where do I stand if I were to be stopped and asked"

Thanks

Alex,

I was going to bring the pod on a trailer as there was no way that I could drive a Funtech 50 from Portsmouth to Lincoln!!! Well, I might but it would take a week to get there!!! How about putting your Pod on a trailer (you said bikes can tow trailers). Admittedly, I was going to be towing it behind a car!

However, the Funtech is dead at the moment (having blown it's piston rings last week) so, unfortunately, my daughter and I won't now be attending the rally :-(
Hi Alex.

Have a look at the following website. Although its for a motorcycle trailer it has section on motorcycle trailer Laws. www.mono-trail.co.uk

There is a bit about the maximum length that a trailer can be in that section.

I tow my Pod on the back of my motorcaravan, and there is still quite a bit of weight on the tow ball. I,m not so sure that your bike would stop or steer very well! (I ride a GSX1400 and a Busa too).

Hope you find some way of getting to the weekend. I can't make it myself as we have other things booked. I am looking forward to hearing the reports after the event though.

Regards

Alan
hmm

I think :
The trailer has an overall width not exceeding 1.00m
and
The Maximum towed weight, including the trailer and it’s load must not exceed 150 Kg (330 lb) or two thirds of the motorcycles kerbside weight, whichever is the least.

Will firmly rule towing a pod behind the bike out.

A Barmy idea but worth paying it some time.
Hi Alex, I would suggest you nip into your local Bobby-Shop and ask them - Not that they will have any idea! but it's worth a try if not I'd just go for it mate the average traffic cop wouldn't know if you were legal or not. Either way see you there looking forward to meeting everyone. Chris.
Hi Guys

Spoke to the nice men in Blue today.

They have No Idea.
When I asked what would the Traffic Units make of this, the answer remained the same.

They are going to try and get a difinitive answer for me but the suggestion was that the weight would be the biggest issue.
