Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi I have a Qpod Funtech 50cc. It starts and ticks over but as soon as you twist the throttle the engine dies. If release the throttle the engine ticks over again.
I have taken the cab off and clean it and all of the jets, also taken the tank out and check the vacuum tap and the tank. Could it be the Exhaust collapsing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has any one got any ideas or had the same problem.
Thanks
Mark

I did but it was the throttle cable in the throes of dying.

Try spark plug ,disconnecting exhaust if not give Glen a ring at cunninghams
Hi Kev,

Thanks, Can you confirm the Spark plug type ( Ridium BPR6HIX ) just loosend the the Exhuast and that did not make any difference.

Thanks
Mark
Did you blow out all the carb with an airline and check gaskets? This sounds like fuel starvation
Hi.
it's either the carb or the ignition.

Are you are sure that the carb is clean - Idle jet as well.
What happens if you pull the choke out ?

Fuel starvation will (usually) produce a fairly regular lack of revs / power.
It would usualy improve with the choke out.

Could be Fuel pump maybe (not high on my list cos it starts fine)

if the choke makes no change then either the carb is still really badly clogged or the coil is breaking down. Could also be the plug is bad.

As another idea, it /could/ be the ignition advance / retard mechanism - no idea how this works on the pods. Does it seem to get very hot if you try to rev it ?
Hi Alex, I have cleaned the carb out again last night and it is spotless, fitted a new spark plug and still no difference. I took the inlet pipe off from the air cleaner and carb, if you slightly cup your hand over the intake of the carb you can get the qpod to rev to its max. So it goes back to fuel starvation. I have been told that it might be Crack shaft seal that have come loose or worn. They said this would give poor vacuum in the carb to the fuel tank!!!!!!!!!! Fuel tank works of a Vacuum tap to open the tap. I had the qpod running and removed the fuel pipe and lots of fuel was present!!!!!. So at this point I have not inspected the seal's. I have started to adjust the mixture screw and it has help, the engine will rev higher but after about 15 to 20 second’s start to die again. if you realise the throttle and try again it will do so. Again still not reaching max revs, any more ideas. Many thanks to every one how has replied. Mark
This is a 2 stroke with electric choke so no pulling it out! or advance/retard. If carb and rubber joint is ok prob be crank seals
hi its glenn from cunninghams (elvis) did you get pod sorted (crank case seals) ?
I had the same problem, it turned out to be muck in the carb (so fine you can't even see it). It happend a few times so cured it with fitting an in line fuel filter. Also check the condition of the rubber connector between the carb and crankcase as mine develope a split due to old age - I could not get a replacement but found that a piece of rubber radiator hose from the car was the correct diameter.

Hi Elvis,

I have not yet replaced the crank case seals but, The qpod will rev and kep on going with no loss of power and I have adjusted the mixture screw in to make a weaker mixture. The mixture screw is vertually in as far as it can go. At the moment it dose not tick over very well but has sorted the running problem out. Has any one got any advise.

Thanks mark
