Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

This might seem like a really daft question. My  qpod sport has decided it does not want to turn over. All that happens is that it just clicks when the ignition is turned,.Suspecting that the starter motor has gone I have looked everywhere to locate but cannot find. Can anyone help me locate it.

I have a fun 500 so can not give detailed help but most of the lombardini engine workshop manuals can be found on the internet as PDF file downloads. I think there is a reference to yours some where on the forum past threads. That said they are normally fairly easy to find. Suggest you google lombardini workshop manual, possibly followed by your engine type, might be LGA 340.
I don't know if you can turn the engine by pushing with your automatic transmission. If you can, might be worth rocking the car in drive in case the starter is jammed.
Thanks Roger .I have tried rocking but no joy. I will google manuals.
this has been covered in past by nick devonport and alex also richard gerrard first check battery 12 volts plus below 11 volts may be finished or require charging to get to motor jack up and remove nearside wheel motor is smaller than car type more like m/c type held by two long allen bolts, there is a big jubilee clip round motor this can be cut away with sharp chisel or drimel type cutting wheel, I Have not done this job yet butlook back in past forum . lombardini do motors about £180 i think ,barry
SEE NICKS starter woes nov 27 that covers it,
Mine has done this a couple of times recently, and the reason was that one of the battery terminals had vibrated loose. When the key is turned the lights etc seem to work O.K. but the starter just clicks! A few seconds tightening the terminal screw and it starts as normal! Have you checked the terminals yet?
Thanks I will check battery first. I have located motor.
I will not be surprized if in the end it is the motor as my Qpod was in the floods in the Lakes
The engine has been flushed many times and had a thorough check and everything regreased.
But the starter motor does not seemed to be the same since.
Thanks again for everyones help.
In addition to the starter motor advice that Barry has posted above do remember that a good quality battery such as a Yuasa one can make a lot of difference to starting a qpod.
Hi. Been a tad busy.....

The starter Motor is a bit of a git to get out ( see my other posts). It can be done with the engine in, but you need to get the Jubalee clip off.

The Click is the solonoid.

Does the motor sound like it's spinning ?
If it is, take the fan Cover off and check there are teeth on the Cog and also that the cog slides along the shaft.

Do you get 12 V to the Motor side of the Solonoid when when you try to start it ?

If motor still fails to turn I guess the motor brushes have stuck.
That /may/ be possible to do with the Motor In, but it will not be easy.
I suggest resigning to a good few hours and take the motor out.

I took my brushes out and turned them over. They had worn unevenly so were jaming in the slots.

Don't be tempted to use WD40 or similar. It will soak in to the brushes and destroy them.
A very small dab of grease is all you need if you insist on lubricating things.

There are Starter Motors advertised on places like Ebay from time to time, but they do look rather cheap and nasty, not that the Lombardini ones are exactly great.

Alex.
