Mine nearly drained the battery the first time I fired it up after a long time off the road but caught just in time. In normal use it's more or less instant. Have you checked your fuel filter? Maybe a blocked breather in the fuel cap?

Hi,

Sometimes a sluggish starter motor can mean that the part is on its way out. I don't know the circumstances, if it has been standing for a while it may be something else.

Just be wary though. You don't want to get caught out anywhere.

Sluggish to start could be few things.

Check the Plug is OK.

Get some fresh fuel in to the carb. There is a drain button under the float Bowel.

Check the fuel pump is working ( Have a suck / Blow on the pipe that connects to the engine case )

Also be worth checking that the relay is OK.
I find mine likes the choke being used in most starting conditions. Pull the choke out and then give the twist grip a slight turn, if the choke starts to slip back in you have given the twist grip too much. Then try turning it over.
Mine has had a tendancy to flood if you get it wrong and then you have to leave it to settle down for a while before it wants to fire again.
Try doing that with the pull start (lol).
