Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

I encountered a similar problem removing the wheel bearings and hub on my POD fun. I needed to replace the shoe brakes on the back but could not access the springs or the clips to remove the old shoes. This of course must involve removal of the wheel bearings / hub to access the relevant psrts. I am sorry I have no idea how to remove the half shafts and attatched hub, but would appreciate anyone's theories on changing brake shoes and springs.

Regards, and thanks.

Hi Howard, Welcome to the club mate. Alex is the man to speak to there is little hes doesn't know about Pods. He will probably pick you up on here as he also runs the website for us. If not I'm sure someone will send you his e.mail address. Cheers, Chris.
Hi

I have no idea how the post 2002 (Steel hubs) Pod brakes work or how they come apart.
Please take this advice as Generic.

As with all things to do with brakes: If you are not sure TAKE IT TO A GARRAGE or someone who knows what they are doing.

You should be able to remove the Wheel. The drum will probably be held on with another screw or 2.

To take the shoes out just fold them over. they should then just slide off the pin and cam that holds them in place.
There may be an adjuster. You will need to screw that in if there is one.

IMPORTANT: Be VERY carefull not to contaminate the new shoes. Put some Masking tape over the friction stuff before you start work.

To replace the shoes,
(This bit is not easy to describe)
Hook the springs in with the shoes stacked on top of each other.
Fold them the other way so that the springs are at the back when you install them.
(Others will say they should be 1 forwards 1 back. I see no ad / disadvantage)

Slip the Shoes back over the Pin and Cam and unfold them so they snap in to place.
Dont forget the screws that hold the Drum in place.

I have an earlier Pod with the Cast Hubs so as i say, i have never seen or done this on a later pod.

And Chris, to note that I have no professional Involvement with either Cunninghams or this web site / forum.

Alex.

Hi again,
Theres a snag! The steel hub type described, will not allow any bending or folding of the shoes to either remove or introduce new springs! there is a circular plate in the way! Bit of a b******.
Regards,
Howard.
