Qpod Club - be a part of the fun!

Hi guys,
This is a funny question I know but let me explain myself. I have a 50cc qpod with a 70cc kit and I get about 50mph.
A 125cc motorbike does 70mph easily.
The 340cc version is nearly 3 times the capacity of a bike that can do 70mph but can only do 45mph.

Weight is not a massive amount more and realistically a motorbike does not have a massive aerodynamic advantage. Not 50% more speed anyway.

Does the 340cc qpod have really quick acceleration?
Does it have a lot of towing power?
Is there any way to get more speed out of a 340cc version?

The reasaon I ask is because I am considering buying a 340cc version. I was insured with MCE who turned around 9 months into the policy and cancelled it. It was because the vehicle was a trike. They did not know that already for some silly reason. So anyway, when I looked for alternative cover, Footman James was the cheapest however the price to insure a 70cc is the same as if i were to insure a 340cc. It begs the question, do I really want an unreliable 2 stroke when I can have a 4 stroke with 5 times the engine capacity?! Not really!

Hi

This question comes up time and time again.

The speed is restricted because at above about 50 MPH they get very unstable. They are just not designed to go that fast......

The Engine speed is Goverened by the Coil to 3600 RPM which equates to about 47 MPH depending on a few other factors such as the condition of the Belt and Weight blocks.

If you want to make the engine run faster, replace the coil with an un restricted one but i'm fairly sure you will end up with bits of engine escaping through places they shouldn't.
Hello widget.
I hate to break this to you but you did not read my post correctly. I have a 50cc version with a 70cc piston bore kit. I have a performance exhaust and a gear up kit with tuned variator rollers. This means that by law it is no longer a 50cc therefore does not have to conform to moped laws, the restricted 45kph. It is now a trike and needs a full car licence to drive. As a result of this tuning, it does 50mph, and that is without me pushing it to its extreme limits. I also do have a sat nav on my phone, which does in fact confirm that it does 50mph.
Although this is the case, it is still a 2 stroke engine that has a tendancy to break more so than a 4 stroke.
