I have not had to do this, so can only give generic advice.
I guess one end is no longer attached - Gearbox end or did the shaft split ?
Firstly hammers are NOT the best method. Use pressure ( Press / Pullers / Bolts etc )

Yep u were correct in thinking it was a drive shasft problem...
I managed to take of the drive shaft with the hub by removing the shocks etc.
I have got the hub and drive shaft now clamped in my workmate. How do I seperate the two without…"

That is the Fill Plug.
With your pod on a flat surface, you shoud fill it up to that level.
The Drain Plug looks the same but is at the bottom of the gear box.
The rod that goes up from the Bottom L is the selector linkage.

You do not need to tension the belt. It's designed to spin when it's at idle.
The Gear Oil is on the R of the box when viewed from thr back of your pod. 2 X 12 or 13 mm Bolts. The bottom is the drain, the top is the levle.
