Just a word of warning about your voltage regulator. Try to do all you can to improve cooling, I have used aluminium to try and conduct heat away from voltage regulator. Overheating might be the cause of premature failure. New Fun 500s have a vent…

One further thought on your heating problems, did you ever free off the heating control knob by the handbrake? If that's not in the open/ heating position you'll not get any heat.

Your problem sounds like electrical connection problems. listen carefully when you try and start car, do you hear a high pitch tone when ignition turned on and is it there when engine turns over but does not start? check earth points always a good starting position.
